When you see a pregnant woman in a TV show or movie, they always seem to have the same symptoms, don’t they? We see them throw up, feel exhausted, act crabby, and complain about swollen feet. It all seems pretty standard. The first thing that surprised me about my first pregnancy was that I never threw up! (well, until I was in labor anyway.) After that came a whole slew of weird symptoms that I figured out were caused by being pregnant. I learned that every woman handles pregnancy differently. Even more than that, every pregnancy is different. My second pregnancy was very different than my first even though they were just a couple of years apart. There is such a huge range of things that could happen because of being pregnant – some more surprising than others. Read on for 10 weird pregnancy symptoms no one tells you about.
10 weird pregnancy symptoms no one tells you about:
1. Congestion
This was the weirdest one to me when I was pregnant for the first time. I was so stuffy! It didn’t make any sense to me until I read online that it has to do with swelling in your sinuses. If other part of your body are swollen, I suppose it makes sense that your face and sinuses could be too.
2. Easily Bleeding
To go along with my lovely congestion, I had nosebleeds a few times when I was pregnant. The increased blood in your body makes it so that you bleed easier than usual. Small nicks in your cuticles, paper cuts, and even bloody noses will bleed more than normal.

3. Restless Leg Syndrome
This one can be especially bad at night- because pregnancy induced insomnia isn’t bad enough, right? Restlessness and the desire to be up and moving can get amped up while pregnant.
4. Clear Skin
Here’s one that I won’t complain about. For many moms, pregnancy causes acne and breakouts that are out of character for their body. I, on the other hand, regularly suffer from adult acne. I was surprised to find that being pregnant made my skin clearer than it had been since I was a kid.

5. Vivid Dreams
Those crazy pregnancy and postpartum hormones can lead to some super crazy dreams. For me, some of them were very lifelike and some of them were very surreal. Either way, they were very vivid and frequent.
6. Gingivitis
Yep, apparently you can have pregnancy gingivitis! This also goes along with number 2. It is common to have a little bit of bleeding when you brush your teeth when you are pregnant.

7. Hot Flashes
Many women complain of hot flashes during pregnancy. For me, they were worst after baby was born!
8. Feeling Full/Loss of Appetite
We all think of pregnant women having strong cravings and hunger. Yes, that can be true. There are also times during pregnancy that many women don’t want to eat. During the first and third trimester, nausea and “morning sickness” can make food unappealing. Then, once baby is taking up most of mom’s belly space, many pregnant women have trouble eating much in one sitting.

9. Carpal Tunnel
Pregnancy wreaks havoc on your muscles and joints. One that surprised me was the affect that it had on my wrists and hands. Working on desk job became extra taxing while pregnant. According to What to Expect, it’s a pretty common symptom.
10. Sciatic/Hip Popping
Another weird joint that was affects for me was my lower back and hips. Sciatic and back pain are common in pregnancy. It can also cause popping at the back of your pelvis. This can be managed with some yoga and PT if needed.
