Iโve probably said it 209890845 time by now – being a parent is hard. Suddenly everything that you do has the added challenge of taking care of another little human while you do it. When you decide to be a parent, you are warned and probably feel ready to accept the responsibility that comes along with having a baby. You can read blog posts, read parenting books, ask other parents, watch movies, do all of the research in the world, but there are somethings that are just unexpectedly hard when you have a baby.
When I say unexpectedly hard, I mean the things that are harder in reality than you thought they would be or things that you never would have thought of that now seem impossible at times.
Here are 25 things that are unexpectedly hard when you have a baby:
- Going to the bathroom
- Taking a shower
- Shaving your legs
- Finding a successful morning schedule
- Finding a successful bedtime schedule
- Succeeding at any schedule
- Diaper changes (these are so hard they got their own post!)
- Keeping on top of the vacuuming
- Wearing clothing not covered in bodily fluids
- Wearing clothing not covered in food
- Making plans with friends
- Not talking too much about your baby
- Staying up past 8:00 pm
- Not calling your spouse mama or dada
- Zipping pajamas on a fighting toddler
- Watching a whole episode of anything
- Not singing along to your childrenโs toys
- Keeping Cheerios out of the furniture
- Knowing what kind of food you just stepped in (well, you hope it was food.)
- Finishing a hot cup of coffee
- Finishing a hot plate of food
- Finishing a conversation
- Going out to eat
- Leaving any room
- Doing most things
Good thing they are cute, right? ๐

It makes me remember the newborn phase I found a lot of things hard that were extremely easy before #Globalblogging
There is definitely a steep learning curve in the beginning!

Yup! I have two now and everything now takes three times longer than it should!
The two things I found incredibly hard to deal with when Ben was a newborn was to find time to shower alone and the loss of identity. Thankfully he’s big enough now to join me in the bath or at least nap for long enough to have a long relaxing bath watching a 45 minute programme! It did take 15 months though haha!
Thank you for sharing this with us at #TriumphantTales. I hope to see you back next week.
I had no idea how hard things would become after having a baby. All I thought about before I had my first was having this cute little baby but had no idea that just having a shower would be hard. And suddenly my husband and I leading such different lives as he still went off to work each day, and I was left alone all day with this tiny little human being. I wouldn’t change it for the world though but it is very hard. #ablogginggoodtime
You summed it up so well! Everything changes – it all becomes so much harder…and so much more joyful. ๐
I don’t think I’ve finished a conversation since 2009! Thanks for linking up to #FridayFrolics

Oh yes, just getting dressed in the morning is often a challenge, and then when you do manage to get dressed you can guarantee that you will get some kind of stain on your clothes from child. Oh my. Pen x #ThatFridayLinky
This is so true, I can relate to so many of these! #BrillBlogPosts
I think we all can! Thanks for stopping by. ๐

I remember when Zach was a baby, I made a cup of tea and the milk was off. All I needed to do was pop to the shop at the end of the road but I knew that it was an almost impossible task! Like, why is going to the shop so darn hard?! Thanks for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday
It’s crazy when you think about how easy chores used to be, right? You could just stop by for a quick errand, and now it’s a whole trip! haha.
