When you hear the word “homemaker” I bet that you picture a stay-at-home mom/housewife from the 1950s with a cute little apron, baking a pie. While that actually sounds kind of like a dream to me (I would look pretty cute holding Peanut in a circle skirt and kitten heels, right?), the modern homemaker comes in all shapes and sizes.
As a working mom, homemaker is just one of the many hats that I wear. At home I am a homemaker. At work I am an operations and logistics assistant. All of the time, I am a mom and a wife.
This week, I am joining in Happy Homemaker Monday to give you a little glimpse into what being a homemaker looks like for me at the moment.
The Weather
It was a beautiful weekend for a Wisconsin spring! Today it is around 60 degrees and mostly sunny. I’m loving it.
Right now I am
We are celebrating Easter with my mother and father-in-law this evening. My husband worked this weekend, so we have celebrated a little bit at a time for three days.
Thinking
I am thankful for my family and really looking forward to summer. I am trying to wrap my head around all of the plans that we would love to make. Summer is also the busy season for the company that I work for – summer concerts and festival season! – so it will probably be a little crazy. I am definitely excited for any outdoor activities that we can squeeze in.
On my reading pile
My reading pile right now is mostly digital. Since joining the world of mom bloggers, I have really enjoyed getting to see into the lives of so many women! We are all so different and have so many important things in common.
Otherwise, I am working my way through The Beginner’s Bible: Timeless Children’s Stories with my son before bed every night.
On my TV
Kyle and I are pretty hooked on all of the Chicago shows (Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Chicago Med, Chicago Justice). Chicago Fire is still our favorite! We are also watching our way through Glee on Netflix. Peanut really loves the musical numbers. 🙂
Favorite blog posts last week
I’m pretty happy with my #transPARENTtuesday post! It turned out great and got a lot of circulation.
I really enjoyed watching Let’s Talk Coffee and Motherhood from The Mama Playbook #coffeeislife
I really enjoyed reading What Does Abide in the Lord Mean? from Heather Bixler
On the menu for this week
Easter leftovers!
As mentioned above, my in-laws are coming to visit tonight, so I think that we are planning to pick something up. I haven’t had a chance to think past that yet.
On my to do list
Always so many things!
Here are a few that are added to the usual list: paint the basement, make a wedding present for one friend, buy a wedding present for another, maybe make a diaper cake, get a haircut, keep spreading the word about Mommy: Home Manager.
In the craft basket
Aforementioned wedding present. I can’t really share details because she’s a subscriber. 😉
Looking forward to this week
Every other weekend, my husband has off Friday, Saturday, Sunday. This is one of those weekends, so we will have a lot of family time.
Looking around the house
Oh boy, do the holidays take a toll on my home. I am a little behind on the cleaning, but we should catch up by the end of this week. (I hope!)
From the camera
On my prayer list
My little brother, Zack. It’s his birthday tomorrow! I am praying for him to find direction and happiness in himself.
Bible verse/Devotional
I have been thinking a lot recently about the importance of helping Peanut to live a faith filled life from infancy. There will be a blog post coming soon on this topic, probably next. For now, here is some scripture for thought.
4 Humility is the fear of the LORD; its wages are riches and honor and life.5 In the paths of the wicked are snares and pitfalls, but those who would preserve their life stay far from them.6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.Proverbs 22:4-6
Sweet little family you have!

Hello, My name is Rowana but my nickname is also Peanut! your little peanut is adorable! I too think it would be a dream to be a 1950’s housewife! but the closest I can get is wearing cute little aprons. The photo of your son Teething on furniture made me laugh-cute! The blogs you mentioned sound so interesting-I hope to find some time to check them out. Hope you have a great week.
Thanks for reading, Rowana. My little one definitely responds to Peanut just as well as he does his given name!
You have a great week as well. 🙂
You know I would be perfectly happy being a 1950’s housewife too hahah I just find everything so much more complicated nowadays.
Your little one is absolutely adorable 🙂

I’m a huge fan of Dick Wolf’s Chicago series but I don’t have a favorite. You have a sweet little family. Thank you for sharing at Vintage Charm.
I think we are just more attached to the characters in Fire because they have so much backstory now!
Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
