About Wildscape
Wildscape’s whole concept is based on keeping food close to nature. Their meals contain big chunks of veggies, hearty grains, and meat that’s free of antibiotics. The meals come in reusable or recyclable plastic containers to try to help minimize packaging waste.
Six Options to Choose From
They are all a one-bowl stirfry type dish where everything is mixed together in a sauce. Heating is easy – just a few minutes in the microwave, stir, then a couple more minutes in the microwave.
The cilantro lime chicken, chimicurri chicken, and gochjuang cauliflower were my definite favorites. Chimicurri chicken may be the number one winner – the sauce was super flavorful and the whole dish was really well balanced with the farro and then a little crunch from the almonds.
You can see more details and nutrition information on each meal option on their website here.
Are they really better for you than other frozen entrees?
Whether or not you would consider these meals healthy depends on your particular dietary needs. They are pretty much all packed with protein and fiber (a huge plus if you are looking to feel full as a breastfeeding mom!), but also contain up to 29% of your daily value of sodium. If you are watching your calories, these meals range 380 -450, which is not too bad for a full meal.
None of the meals contain dairy. There are meat-free, gluten free options as well.
Try Wildscape For Yourself
If you want to give Wildscape a try, check out the store locator on their website. I found them at my local Meijer location. They retail for $5.99 each, and are found with the other frozen entrees.
My Overall Opinion
To put it simply – will I be buying Wildscape meals again? Probably not.
The meals that I tried were yummy, super convenient, and met most of my nutritional needs for lunch. (I usually ate one of these plus a serving of fruit.) I’m really glad I got to try them! The biggest deterrent for me is just the price. I live on a very tight grocery budget, and have to sacrifice convenience for price. I tend to make my own frozen meals more often than buying them already made.
As far as the recyclable/reusable containers – I did end up recycling all of my bowls. They seem a little flimsy, and I didn’t think I would reuse them. One also broke in the microwave which was very disappointing (and messy).
In the end, whether or not I recommend Wildscape depends on your current lunch budget. They’re more convenient, cheaper, and probably healthier than fast food. For me, they won’t beat a packed lunch on any of those criteria.
